The Prophet ﷺ said:
“When the believer commits sin, a black spot appears on his heart. If he repents and gives up that sin and seeks forgiveness, his heart will be polished. But if (the sin) increases, (the black spot) increases.”
[Ibn Majah]
Compare yourself now, to a few years ago. There are so many sins we wouldn’t have dared committing, now they are our daily routine.
Music, earning haraam, uncovering our Awrah, relationships out of wedlock, backbiting, swearing, lying, being arrogant and so much more.
There is no remorse, that innocence is gone, because think of it like this, if a white sheet is covered in mud, and a little more goes onto it, would it bother you? No, because you could hardly tell. However, if it was a white sheet, pure and clean, then every little mark stands out, and you want to clean it immediately.
The heart is like this, the more we cover it with sin, the less we realise how wrong we are, because there’s so much covering it that it becomes the norm. We must start cleaning the darkness of sin from our hearts, before they are engulfed with Ran (complete darkness). Juma Mubarak
